Loft Conversions

Lift the burden on your living space with transformative loft conversions
Turn your loft into a room to love. With a loft conversion, you’re not just adding an extra room. You’re reshaping it from a place for forgotten boxes into an integral part of your home – one that brings more space for you or your family, not to mention more natural light.
Whatever your plans for revamping your loft, My Village Architect is here to help. We’ll work with you on uncovering the best use of the available space, and deliver creative concepts laid out in clear drawings and models.
Can my loft be converted?
Loft conversions in the UK are typically best suited to older houses with cut roofs. If you can walk around your loft without ducking under wooden beams, then you’ve probably got a cut roof.
If you have got wooden trusses supporting your roof, you can still get the loft converted – but it will be more difficult and costly. A trussed roof is a specially engineered design, meaning you can’t just cut those timbers out to make openings. As a result, you’ll need to budget for a new roof, as well as the advice of a structural engineer.
You also need to bear your stairs in mind. Loft conversions often mean losing a small space on the first floor landing to add in stair access, and it’s most viable when you can stack the new staircase on top of your existing ground-to-first floor stairs.
