Single & Double
Storey Extensions

Fully integrated single and double storey extensions that give you space and flexibility
Imagine a home that grows with you. Whether you’re looking to add a much-needed home office or an en suite you don’t have to share with the kids, an extension is one of the best ways to find the extra room you need without going through the hassle of moving.
My Village Architect can help you bring your vision for your home to life. We’ll guide you through fine-tuning what you’re looking for from your extension, understanding its impact on the rest of your house and what you’ll need to make it through planning.
Single storey extensions
If you love your current home to bits but wish you weren’t bumping up against the walls quite so much, it might be time to consider a single storey extension.
Your design journey starts with what you’re looking for. A remodelled kitchen for entertaining? More family space? Wraparound access to your garden? Together we’ll talk through your needs and create thoughtful designs that bring more freedom to your ground floor.

Double storey extensions
A double story extension can be one of the most cost effective ways of transforming your home’s potential space. As a lot of an extension’s cost is in the ground works, a double storey can give you twice the room without paying twice the cost.
While you’re adding to your living space downstairs, a double storey extension unlocks new possibilities for your upstairs. Whether that’s a dedicated study or a new or spare bedroom, a double storey extension might be the answer if your dream home is always feeling one room short.
Will I need planning permission for an extension?
Generally you won’t need planning permission for a single storey extension if:
You’re going out at the rear by 4 metres on a detached home or 3 metres on a semi-detached or terraced home
You’re going out to less than 50% the width of your main house on a side extension
Any wraparound extension will need planning permission as it’s joining up two aspects of the house, but it’s often worth the process as it makes the most of the space around your home.
With more than a decade of experience in architectural design, we can advise you on what you’ll need to satisfy planning before we get started on drawing up any concepts, and will take care of all the paperwork so you don’t have to worry.
